Overview
Nehru Memorial Library MAHE, Manipal is a public library which was established in 1967. The library is located near C. V. Raman Hostel Block, MAHE, Manipal. The library has 5,000 square feet area and it can accommodate 59 users at a time. The library has rich collection of books, reference books, fiction and non-fiction books in English, Kannada and a few other regional languages. The leading newspapers and general magazines are available for reading for the general public. The services are provided to the Staff, Students of MAHE and the Public. The collection development is being done based on users' needs. The library is automated with KOHA library software and the collections of the books are arranged according to Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC). The library provides internet facilities to the users. The books available in the library can be checked through the library’s online public access catalogue search – the OPAC. The library is enabled with a Closed-Circuit Television System (CCTV).
The books are available in the library on Literature, General Knowledge, Mysteries, Art, Culture, Humanity, History, Biographies, Dictionaries, Education, Philosophy, Children’s literature, Comics, Religion, Spirituality and other general subjects.
Children Section: Nehru Memorial Library has separate children’s section to serve the Children by providing children’s related books and Magazines.
The books available in the library can be checked through the Web - OPAC (online public access catalogue).
Rules & Regulations
The rules and regulations of the library are as follows.
- Bags, and handbags may be left at the property counter provided at the entrance of the library.
- Users are advised not to keep their valuable things in the bag. The library is not responsible for the loss or damage of any valuable things.
- Personal books are not permitted to bring inside the library.
- Books, magazines, etc. should be used with care and books taken from the shelves for reading should be left on the tables after use and “not” to be replaced on the shelves.
- Sleeping and talking loudly are strictly prohibited in the library.
- Mobiles phones are to be switched off or to be kept on silent mode in the library.
- Users are required to vacate the library at designated closing times.
- Eatables and beverages are not permitted inside the library
- Defacing library materials by underlining or writing is strictly prohibited
- Library furniture, equipment, and fittings should not be marked, damaged, or rearranged. Users should refrain from placing feet on chairs or tables
- Personal belongings should not be left unattended. The library is not responsible for any loss or damage
- Silence, decorum, and discipline must be maintained at all times in the library
- Users should not alter the settings on library computers
- Loss or damage to library material on loan to a user should be reported immediately. The user must pay the cost of replacing a lost or seriously damaged book/article; in addition, he/she has to pay the fine.
- Users should not reserve seats either for themselves or for others by leaving library material or personal property on a reading table.
Circulation
The rules and regulations of circulation are as follows:
- The membership cards will be issued for those who are eligible to borrow the books.
- Users can borrow maximum of 2 books at a time and the book should be returned by the due date (14 days of duration) stamped in the book.
- Borrowers must bring the membership card while borrowing books.
- Membership card is not transferable.
- Borrowers are responsible for the damage of books.
- The Annual Membership fee is Rs. 500.
- The Life Membership fee is Rs. 1000.
- Fine of Rs. 1/- will be charged per book/ per day for overdue.
- Borrowers has to return the membership card when they want to discontinue the membership.
- Borrowers must replace the book if lost/ damaged with the latest edition/ books will be charged as per the library rules.
- Reissue of the books can be done only with the presence of the member.
