Library Overview
History
The Manipal School of Architecture & Planning (MSAP) is a constituent of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, (MAHE) started in 1978 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree under Mysore University. The institution came under the newly established Mangalore University in 1980 as Department of Architecture. In October 2003, MAHE renamed the Department of Architecture as Faculty of Architecture and in April 2018 Faculty of Architecture as Manipal School of Architecture & Planning. In 2010, it became the 22nd institute of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, India. Design is an act of creating an environment where we shape and develop our surrounding to suit our physical and psychological needs. Design thinking is used in all professions as a verb or skill to develop solutions suited to the context and person/people. MSAP believes in training designers in theoretical as well as practical problem-solving; and hone their design thinking. MSAP offers new openings for its students to follow their creative pursuits while building their professional careers under the guidance of highly experienced Faculty.
Objectives:
MSAP library is entrusted with the task of procuring, organizing and displaying the various sources of knowledge in different media and disseminating them to the users.
- Provide timely, accurate, and up-to date information and resources to support the users educational, teaching and research needs.
Working Hours
The working hours of the MSAP Library are as follows.
On All working days: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday and Third Saturday -Holiday
Administration:
The Library is led by a professionally qualified Librarian Senior Scale and supported by a Senior Library Assistant.
Location: MSAP Library is situated in the Basement of Manipal School of Architecture and Planning. Behind 10th Block MIT Hostel

Librarian office, help desk, security desk, property counter, notice boards, group study area (UG), circulation (issue and return) section, self-check-out/in , book , reference counter, OPAC user terminals, internet kiosks, new arrivals section, reading hall.
Rules and Regulations:
The library rules and regulations are as follows:
All the students are requested to bring their ID cards while coming to library and swiped at the library entrance it must be produced before the library staff if ask for identification.
- Students are not allowed to take books, files, printed materials or any other articles inside the lending section of the library.
- Borrowing and returning books from the circulation counter. This facility is not available on Sundays & Holidays.
- Mutilation and disfiguring pages of books are strictly prohibited. A person should be responsible for any damage done to the documents in the library.
- Books, journals, and other materials taken from the shelves should be left on the tables after use, not returned to the shelves.
- Students shall maintain perfect silence inside the library.
- Personal belongings should not be left unattended. The library is not responsible for any loss or damage.
- Smoking, eating, drinking (except water), sleeping, and loud talking are prohibited in the library reading halls.
- Silence, decorum, and discipline must be maintained at all times in the library.
- Users should not alter the settings on library computers.
- All library materials should be handled with care.

Cataloging:
The availability of library materials - books, journals, back volumes of journals, and CDs purchased and available in the library- can be checked through the library’s online catalog, the OPAC.
Library Users:
The use of the MSAP Library has enabled to Architecture and Department of Design Faculty, Students, and researchers .
Circulation:
Books are available for circulation to Under Graduate, Postgraduate Students, Research Scholars, and Faculty Members. However, reference books, bound and unbound journals, audio-visual materials, and CDs are for in-house use only.

The circulation rules and regulations are as follows:
- Borrowers must present their borrower’s card each time they visit the library to borrow books.
- Only books can be borrowed; other materials are not available for circulation.
- The borrower’s card is non-transferable.
- The borrower is responsible for any damage or loss of borrowed books.
- Books must be physically presented at the circulation counter for renewal.
- Borrowed books must be returned on or before the due date.
- After due date 2 Rs, fine is applicable
- Students will pay the fine through the SLCM Portal
- If a book is lost, the borrower must replace it with the latest edition.
- Books will be reserved only if there are existing reservations.
