MAHE BLR Library Overview

Overview

The library plays a vital role in providing most essential resources to support the teaching, learning and research activities in the university. The MAHE BLR libraries have the need based collection both print and online resources. The collection development is based on the faculty recommendations. All our faculty members, HODs, HOIs and Library Committee Members actively support us in building the collection. All our libraries like MITB, SMI, TAPMIB, MLS, DOC, DLHS, MIRM, DPP are automated usinh Koha Library Management software. The Online Catalogue is accessible to all to know the availability of books in their respective libraries.

The implementation of OpenAthens remote access facility for all users to access more than 5000 e-journals and one lakh+ e-books is one of the effective initiatives done by the library team in this year. In addition to the earlier subscriptions like SpringerLink, ScienceDirect, ProQuest Central, JSTOR, and the Scopus, Wiley journals, EPW, Air Online, SCC online, Manupatra, Lexis are some of the prominent Law Databases subscribed this year. The CMIE databases are subscribed by the TAPMIB library, the PressReader database gives access to 7000+ magazines and e-newspapers is available to all. We have also added a few core databases like IEEE Online, Bloomsbury design Library, RSC, ACS, IoP, World Scientific publishing, etc. All users of MAHE BLR can access these online resources 24/7 using OpenAthens remote access facility.

We have created previous year question paper links for all courses which can be accessed just by scanning QR codes. We have developed library specific portals for all our MAHE BLR libraries.

The RFID system for the MITB library has been implemented last year and based on our experience we are implementing this RFID system for the SMI Library this year. We have security gate, Smart Serve Kiosk, Smart Stock, Book Tags, Staff Station etc.

Various events have been organized by the library in the form of “Know Your Library” sessions, Book Exhibitions, Database trainings, story writing competitions, book review sessions, etc. To support the users, the library’s working hours have been extended till 10 pm during exams and open on all Sundays and holidays except a few public holidays.

With the help of the Central IT team, we intend to implement single integrated Koha system which will help us to inter library circulation and better utilization of print resources.

The EBSCO Discovery Service and Stack a new library website will be a one stop for all services. This will enable us to provide effective library services to all our users.

The library team development activities have been happening throughout the year where the Chief Librarian attended the G20 Library summit held at Pondicherry University and won best paper presentation award, the Librarian attended International Conference held at Manipal University Jaipur. It is also great year for the library where we intrduced the Best Library Users Awards, author talks, book exhibitions and creative writing comptetitions.

The every passing year the library is making a positive impact to all students, faculty, researchers. The sessions Know Your Library conducted by the library every year are also making good impact among the users. The usage of the library both print and online databases has been very impressive. The foot falls is encouraging for all libraries in the campus to provide better services to all our users.

The year 2024 was more productive and engaging to all our library staff and various learning opportunities  were created. Our Central Library with 1lakh Sq.ft state of the art facilities will be functional by December 2025. It is most needed facilites on campus where 60% of our students will be staying in hostels. We are looking forward to provide the best of the best services from the Central Library in the time to come.
