About Us
Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore, boasts a rich and diverse library service designed to support the academic, research, and information needs of students, faculty, researchers, and other users. The Central Library occupies approximately 4,100 square metres and has a seating capacity of around 800 users. The library is centrally air-conditioned, Wi-Fi enabled, and thoughtfully designed with dedicated sections to facilitate convenient access to various information resources.
The Undergraduate Section is located in the basement, while the Postgraduate and Reference Section is situated on the ground floor. The library also has dedicated areas for current periodicals, bound volumes, and group discussions. In addition, a separate library facility is available at the Knowledge Block Building, Basic Science Campus, to support the learning and academic requirements of students in the basic sciences.
The Central Library is accessible from 9:00 A.M. to 11:30 P.M., while the Knowledge Block (Basic Sciences) Library is open from 9:00 A.M. to 8:30 P.M. on all weekdays, providing extended access to library resources.
The library has a substantial collection of approximately 37,850 print books, 30,335 bound volumes of journals, and subscriptions to more than 110 print journals annually. It also houses approximately 3,318 thesis titles for reference and research purposes.
In addition to conventional print resources, the library provides extensive access to electronic journals, e-books, databases, and online learning resources. It subscribes to more than 55 online databases and electronic resource packages, including UpToDate, ClinicalKey, Scopus, Web of Science, BMJ, Springer, Cambridge, Oxford, and SAGE Publications.
To facilitate efficient discovery and retrieval of information, the library utilizes the Discovery Service, which enables users to search across multiple subscribed databases and electronic resources through a single platform. These resources can also be accessed remotely, including off-campus and beyond regular library hours, through OpenAthens and the library portal, ensuring uninterrupted access to scholarly information.
The library is fully automated and incorporates modern library management practices and technologies. It is equipped with access-control and security systems, RFID technology, and CCTV surveillance, ensuring efficient resource management, user safety, and a secure and convenient learning environment.
